Valentine’s Day is almost upon us and this year it happens to fall on a Sunday. It’s the perfect time to make a bit of a fuss and treat someone special (and yourself!) to a great meal. Why not choose a cuisine you’ve been craving lately or branch out and try a local restaurant that’s new to you? To help, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite takeout ideas near Blossom Gate in London.
Thaifoon Restaurant is the place to go when you’re craving that fresh, uniquely sweet and savoury mix that Thai food is known for. There’s a wide selection of curries, stir-fries and noodle dishes, but you should also try an appetizer or two, maybe some mussels, dumplings, or coconut soup. They’re also offering packaged dinner combinations, which include many of the restaurant’s most popular dishes—and save you from the difficulty of having to decide between so many tempting choices. Thaifoon is also vegetarian- and vegan-friendly, so you’re sure to find lots of options here.
Hunter & Co.
If you’re missing the sip-and-snack experience, Hunter & Co. has you covered. Their cocktail kits let you recreate the bar and restaurant vibe at home. They’ll give you everything you need to make French 75, Paloma, Moscow, London and Mexican Mule cocktails; they also sell premixed cocktails and a selection of beer, wine, and liquor. While they normally do small plates, they have put together a fantastic dinner menu that’s available for pick-up; options include Korean fried chicken, halloumi tikka masala, flatiron steak, and ahi tuna. You’re guaranteed to be eating and drinking well.
Greek cuisine is perfect for special moments as it’s delicious, healthy, and celebrates the spirit of abundance. Enjoy all of your favourite Mediterranean dishes in takeout form from London’s Mythic Grill. Souvlaki, falafel, spanakopita, calamari, moussaka, gyro, shrimp, salmon, pasta… you may want to order a couple of different dishes to share so you can sample a bit of everything. Round out the meal with some wine or champagne and top it all off with dessert! Try the flourless chocolate cake, baklava, cheesecake, or their Greek coffee crème brûlée.
If you’re in the mood for some fine dining at home, there’s no better choice than David’s Bistro. The restaurant is run by a father-daughter team and they’ve created a special three-course Valentine’s Day menu for the weekend. It features a jumbo shrimp skewer, roasted Cornish hen, and a Bailey’s Bavarois for dessert; you can even add a bottle of rose. Just be sure to order in advance, online via email, by Thursday, February 11 @ 4 pm. Specify which day, and whether you want pick-up or delivery. Meals can be picked up between 11-3 on Saturday February 13 or Sunday February 14; delivery is available both days between 1-4. Simply reheat when you are ready to enjoy.
Nothing says romance quite like a classic Italian meal and London’s Ivy Ristorante has it all. You could start with their charcuterie board, seafood platter, meatballs, or arancini, before moving on to the rest of their wide-ranging menu that includes insalata, pasta, carne, and frutti di mare. They also have an impressive full vegetarian menu and gluten-free pasta is available. Add some craft beer, wine, or sparkling wine to your order and you’re set for the night.
