Now that Spring has officially begun, everyone is excited to spend more time outdoors once again and witness this magical season of transformation up close. To that end, we’ve put together a list of things you can do and see that will get you active, help you learn a new skill or two, and put a real spring in your step. These treasures, all located close to the neighbourhood of Weston and Finch in Toronto, include 4 great ways to enjoy Spring near Emery.
Watch Nature Spring Back To Life Along The Humber River
Take advantage of the many area trails and pathways to witness Spring’s changes firsthand: the first tulips of the season, the new buds on the trees, and all the creatures and critters that are suddenly more visible and active. Follow along the banks of Emery Creek from Lindylou Park, south past the Weston Road Pentecostal Church, until it joins the West Humber River Bridge and Pond. At this point, you can branch north or south, where it continues to meander alongside a number of local parks and neighbourhoods. Venture south to follow the West Humber Recreational Trail, which leads to the Humber Valley Pond; you can even walk the perimeter of the scenic Humber Valley Golf Course. Take a friend, walk your dog, snap some photos, and enjoy the balmy breezes.
Start An Indoor Gardening Project
If you’re inspired by all of the beauty springing to life beyond your windows, why not try tackling a small indoor gardening project of your own. Start from scratch by planting seeds and growing your own mini indoor herb garden right on the countertop in your kitchen or buy a small pre-potted plant from the grocery or local garden store, place it in a sunny corner of your living room, and learn how to care for it. Anga’s Farm & Nursery has a great selection of houseplants, plant care and gardening supplies—it also happens to be Toronto’s last operational historic farm.
Get In Shape Or Amp Up Your Spring Workouts
Believe it or not, many experience lethargy or fatigue in the Spring. If you really feel the effects of turning the clock an hour forward for Daylight Savings Time and/or experience a dip in your energy levels this time of year, you’re not alone. One of the best ways to combat this is to eat well (a variety of fresh, healthy, nutrition-packed foods) and to increase your activity levels. It’s a great time to work on getting in shape or, if you’re already someone who exercises regularly, really amping up your current workouts. A number of top-notch facilities in the neighbourhood can help, including the Ballers Union Training Centre for those who love basketball, Before & After Fitness Club, Grow Fitness, and Bodies 2 Envy Fitness Studio. If your mind has already made the leap ahead to summer, sign up for swimming lessons at North York Emery Swimming Pool to ensure you’ll be ready to make a splash.
Play A Round Of Golf
Whether you’re an absolute beginner or an experienced player, treat yourself to a round of golf this Spring at the beautiful Humber Valley Golf Course.Last year, on April 1st, the City of Toronto opened its golf courses, providing golfers who had patiently waited all winter for warmer weather with the opportunity to finally play their first game of the season. This 18-hole course is considered moderately difficult at 5,446 yards with a Par 70. They offer golf lessons, offer equipment rentals at their pro shop, and there is a licensed restaurant onsite where you can enjoy a drink or a snack after your round.
These are just some of the ways you can enjoy Spring near Emery at Weston and Finch. Thanks for reading and don’t forget to follow the Medallion blog for more tips on making the most of the seasons.
