Nesting season is upon us as the cooler weather sets in, so why not take this weekend to start a little DIY decorating project? Our tips to style bookshelves will allow you to freshen up your space in no time. Read on for simple steps to create visually stunning shelves in no time at all!
Start With Larger Objects
It’s always easier to get a sense of spacing when decorating when starting with larger objects and filling in areas with smaller ones. Balance out your shelves by making sure you spread out objects evenly according to size. You want to keep things looking relaxed by avoiding complete symmetry while still achieving balance. As a rule, group items in threes or fives.
Use Artwork
Artwork is a wonderful addition to a bookshelf! Place it at the back of shelves and layer smaller pieces in front. As a tip, an inexpensive way to achieve this is to use cards or cut out a print from a calendar. Framing isn’t even necessary; there’s a relaxed charm to an unframed piece of art on a bookshelf.
Mix Up Book Placement

Plants, especially those that have vines that drape down, are a lovely addition to a bookshelf. But you don’t have to have a green thumb to add something organic to your shelf! Try dried flowers or feathers in a vase, or even shells or crystals. All of these add a bit of warmth to a room.
